Joint mobilization for physical therapy aims to restore normal joint function that may have been compromised during trauma or injury, and is effective in reducing joint pain and stiffness. It is a passive movement technique in which a licensed physical therapist applies a force to the joint at varying speeds and motions (joint gliding).  

Joint manipulation for physical therapy is a passive, high velocity, low amplitude thrust applied to the targeted joint. It is characteristically associated with a “pop” or “click”.  This specialized type of manual therapy is shown to improve range of motion and stability, and reduce stiffness and pain.
